Can Nonsmokers Get COPD?

– COPD is a very broad term and what it means is that
the airways are narrowed and they don’t open up normally. So the most common cause
of COPD is tobacco, but there are other causes of COPD. Some people think that asthma
that’s not well-treated eventually becomes COPD. There’s also people who
have genetic disorders like alpha-1 antitrypsin
deficiency that can develop COPD. Those are probably the
two most common causes of non-tobacco-related COPD.
